Bau Truc Pottery Village has long been considered the "heart" of traditional Cham pottery, preserving some of Vietnam's most unique cultural values. What makes this place special isn't just its centuries-old history, but its completely handmade pottery techniques—no potter's wheels, no modern kilns.
Every piece created here carries the essence of earth, sun, and wind, shaped by the skilled hands of Cham artisans. Clay pots, flower vases, jars, and bowls are all hand-molded, sun-dried, and fired with wood in open fields. This rustic approach gives Bau Truc pottery its distinctive beauty—raw yet refined, simple yet captivating.
According to legend, the pottery craft in Bau Truc originated centuries ago thanks to Poklong Chanh, the patron saint of pottery, who is still revered and worshipped by villagers today.
Originally called "Paley Hamu Trok" (meaning pottery village in Cham), the Vietnamese later adapted it to "Bau Truc." The name also connects to the ponds and small lakes that once dotted the village, sustaining generations of Cham people.
Bau Truc pottery isn't just a livelihood—it carries deep cultural and spiritual value. Each piece is infused with the craftsperson's emotions, beliefs, and prayers for favorable weather, abundant harvests, and family prosperity.
Today, the pottery village has become an attractive cultural tourism destination. Visitors can watch the pottery-making process, try their hand at molding clay with artisans, or purchase unique souvenirs.
